TBT: It's All About the Recovery

In 1976 tragedy struck St. Mary's Episcopal Church in Burlington, NJ. A fire ravaged the Gothic Revival cathedral originally finished in 1854.

In spite of the immeasurable loss of the historic details and materials, the church was rebuilt and restored to its original configuration and design. The stone was restored and the wooden roof rebuilt. In lieu of heavy timber for the roof they chose to go with glulam for its strength, curving capabilities, and availability.

It was 3 years before they were able to hold a service in the church. But, with resolve, perseverance, and the right tools they were able to restore the historic building to a beautiful facsimile of the original.
